Mission

To nurture and disciple young and old to live as Christ's loving witnesses, serving and sharing hope with all.

Tagline & Method

Nurture. Disciple. Serve. Proclaim

“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Savior mingled with people as one who desired their good. He showed sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He invited them, ‘Follow Me.’ ”

The Full Story behind our

Vision

Allow us to break down this vision statement as we contemplate how to move forward as a body of believers in Jesus:

  1. “Nurture”

    1. It suggests a gentle, ongoing process rather than merely teaching information.

    2. It involves acceptance, inclusion, connecting, friendship, caring, and mentoring.

    3. It reveals the compassion of Christ for everyone.

  1. “Disciple”

    1. Discipling goes beyond nurturing. It includes:

      1. Teaching people to become followers of Jesus.

      2. Grounding them in the Word of God.

      3. Teaching obedience through faith and grace.

      4. Empowering people to fulfill God’s mission.

You see? Pairing “nurturing” and “discipling” brings balance between compassion and commitment.

  1. “Young and old”

    1. This phrase communicates inclusion across generations.

    2. It includes babies, children, youth, young adults, adults, and seniors. Every person is unique and precious to God.

    3. This phrase seeks to address the challenge Christianity faces today with younger generations. We cannot afford to neglect anyone.

    4. The statement places high value on our ministries for young people, such as Children’s Sabbath School classes, Adventurer and Pathfinder Clubs, Cedar Lake Elementary School, and Great Lakes Adventist Academy.

    5. We consider it a special privilege to be a multigenerational congregation.

  1. “Live as Christ’s loving witnesses”

    1. The gospel needs to be demonstrated in our lives.

    2. We cannot afford to be rude, critical, indifferent, disconnected, or cold, and yet believe that we are faithfully following Jesus.

    3. Our lives, our church family, and the way we minister to people must visibly reflect the love of Jesus and the fruit of the Spirit.

  1. “Serving”

    1. Serving implies action—meeting needs and helping others.

    2. Christians demonstrate Christ’s love through acts of kindness.

  1. “Sharing hope”

    1. It complements “serving.” Serving addresses practical needs. “Sharing hope” addresses spiritual and emotional needs by presenting the good news of salvation through Jesus.

    2. It points people to the Blessed Hope of all believers: the soon return of Jesus to take us home and the hope of eternal life.

  1. “With all”

    1. This final phrase broadens the mission outward.

    2. It extends to everyone: the community, our neighbors, strangers, believers and nonbelievers alike.

    3. It prevents the mission from sounding inward-focused. It reminds us that we make disciples who will, in turn, become disciple-makers themselves.

To simplify, here it is our mission statement: Nurture. Disciple. Serve. Proclaim.
